  • ERGONOMIC - No more struggling to open cans. Fits easily in your hand. The handle is long enough and thick enough to give a good grip so your hands wont cramp while opening the can.   The handle is also  textured with  a tacky rubber for traction so you can get a good grip. The handle is also   longer  than a standard can opener handle for better leverage and easier turning.
  • SMOOTH CUTS - Creates a smooth edge on any can it opens so you won't have to worry about slicing your hand by accident. The can opener LIFTS the lid right off without slicing through metal. It  undoes the seem that holds the can to the can lid.
  • SIDE CUT - By far the safest way to open a can is with a side cutting can opener such as this one. Although called a "side cut"  the opened actually doesn't slice through metal. It releases the lid from the can so it just pops right off like a jar lid.
  • OPENS LIKE  A JAR - No need to struggle to turn the handle as the opener's blade removes the lid just like a jar lid.

The first can opener was patented in 1858. At the time, most cans were a  opened with a hammer and chisel. Lucky for you, technology has improved.

The modern day can opener works by cutting into the top of the can, leaving jagged edges.  At Holm, we felt that there was a better and safer way. We designed our can opener to  separate the lid from the body of the can, leaving dull safe edges.   Since the can opener doesn't have to slice through metal, it's easier and safer to operate than the old-fashioned can openers.

We tested the holm lid lifter with  right handed and left handed cooks and  opened hundreds of cans: squat cans of tuna fish, small cans of tomato paste, medium cans of chickpeas, and large cans of whole tomatoes. We also made sure our can opener was easy to attach to the cans. Next, we designed the can opener for  smoothness and ease of operation. We wanted it to be easy  to drive the opener around cans. The handle is ergonomic - not too thin, or too thick.

Finally, we made sure our design made for a safe lid detachment and disposal. Since the lid is separated from the can, it's an easy process to simply remove it  when it is  completely severed—safe, clean, and simple. No sharp edges to deal with.

In the end we asked ourselves one all important question:   “Can you be in love with a can opener?” We think so.  Our can opener is  easy to attach and operate, tidily and safely disposes of lids.  Compared with your grandma's old style can opener, this opener will seem like  magic.
